Arne Gieshoff (*1988) is an artist and composer based in Darmstadt, Germany. His work moves between acoustic and electronic music, music theatre, and site-specific and participatory formats. Alongside pieces for the concert hall, much of his recent work has grown out of particular places and their histories, bringing together found sounds and objects, archival materials and musical transformation to explore how different layers of time and meaning can coexist and surface.
His music has been performed by the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Scharoun Ensemble, Birmingham Contemporary Music Group, Collegium Novum Zürich, Schola Heidelberg and AuditivVokal, among others, and presented at the Darmstädter Ferienkurse, ECLAT and Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival.
Gieshoff studied composition at the Royal College of Music in London, was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center and co-founded Explore Ensemble. He has received the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Prize and the Darmstädter Musikpreis, and was a fellow at the International Artists’ House Villa Concordia in 2024/25. He currently teaches composition at the Akademie für Tonkunst Darmstadt.
